Academic
Excellence Indicator System report. A new building completed in 2000 houses
Shallowater Intermediate School. The school is considered state-of-the-art by
its teachers and administrators, said one school official. The new building has
separate wings, each painted in bright, primary colors.
A gymnasium anchors
the center of the school complex.
The school provides students and teachers
Internet-ready computers, and provides computer lab instruction.
The playground
facilities are new, and include a basketball court, sliding boards and swing sets.
Although the school has no parent teacher association, the parents readily
volunteer whenever called upon, a school official said.
The school hosts an
annual Drug-Free Awareness Week each April, which is usually presented by a law
enforcement official accompanied by a drug-sniffing dog.
In December, students
participate in a civic food drive to help the needy.
The small, rural school
has "excellent" teachers, and the teachers create a unique atmosphere conducive
to learning, said Principal Ruben DeLeon.
