School officials said that Shallowater High School is about as good they come. Students attend classes in a building completed in 1989, and the district is considering adding to the facility. The school has two Internet-ready computer labs, and students have access to more than 100 computers.

Extracurricular activities offered at the school include band, jazz band and scholastic team competitions. The Mustangs compete in basketball, football, cross-country running, volleyball, baseball and golf. Shallowater has competed in the state basketball tournament.

School officials said excellent teachers and facilities create an environment conducive for learning. A dual credit program is available and tech prep courses are offered in cooperation with South Plains College. About 70 percent of graduates attend college or technical school.
