Academic
Excellence Indicator System report. Shallowater Elementary School, built
in the late 1960s, has had several improvements over the years, with the latest
upgrade occurring in the early 1990s, said school officials.
The school has
no Parent Teacher Association, but parents "are very active volunteers," and stay
involved with the students' interests and the school, said school officials.
The school has more than 100 computers available to students and teachers. Each
classroom has computers, and the school offers the popular Accelerated Reader
program, which gives points to students who test themselves on their comprehension
of the books they read.
The reading program points are used to purchase goods
from a store at the school.
Playground facilities at Shallowater are under
development, said one official.
Annual special events include Public Education
Week, Grandparents Day, field trips, and reading-related events that involve the
parents. Students participate in a number of University Interscholastic League
events during the year, an official said.
Shallowater has a small-town feel,
and the facility is the hub of social, political and cultural events in Shallowater,
said a school official.
