Hutchinson Junior High School participates in various magnet programs throughout the year.

Hutchinson has the only sports treatment center in the Lubbock Independent School District.

The school has two gymnasiums, tennis facilities, a weight room and two new computer labs.

The building was constructed in 1947. A new section was added in 1997.

Hutchinson has two computer labs, each with 25 computers. Also, 85 percent of the teachers at Hutchinson have a computer in their classroom.

Both computer labs are Internet-connected and recently the entire school was wired for the Internet, as well as an in-school network.

Sports programs include basketball, football, tennis, wrestling, volleyball, track, gymnastics, dance and swimming.

The choir program consists of the Varsity Mixed Choir, the Advanced Girls Choir, the Beginner Girls Choir and Unity -- a jazz choir.

The school is part of the Historical Tour for Buddy Holly, because Holly performed onstage at Hutchinson. The school was his alma mater.

Special programs include Junior Historians, the National Junior Honor Society, and a Core Knowledge course.
