Built in 1965, Evans Junior High School has 61 classrooms, three gymnasiums, an activities room, a 550-seat auditorium and a modern library.

In 1997, 16 new classrooms were added.

Every classroom has a computer, and the school has two computer labs equipped with more than 80 Internet-ready computers -- primarily Dell computers.

The ninth-grade football team played to become City Champions in 2000, and the swimming and diving teams won a number of competitions in 2001.

Evans supports a national Junior Honor Society, The Fellowship of Christian Athlete's program and the Foreign Language Club.

Eighty percent of Evans students move on to high school and advance to higher education, a school official said.

In November 2000, the school observed Veterans Day with a special assembly. Each year, Evans hosts a Founders Day, the William H. Evans Day and a Student Recognition program.

The school has a large membership in its Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and many students belong to the National Junior Honor Society. Evans also has a large foreign language enrollment.
