in 1965, Evans Junior High School has 61 classrooms, three gymnasiums, an activities
room, a 550-seat auditorium and a modern library.
In 1997, 16 new classrooms
were added.
Every classroom has a computer, and the school has two computer
labs equipped with more than 80 Internet-ready computers -- primarily Dell computers.
The ninth-grade football team played to become City Champions in 2000, and
the swimming and diving teams won a number of competitions in 2001.
Evans
supports a national Junior Honor Society, The Fellowship of Christian Athlete's
program and the Foreign Language Club.
Eighty percent of Evans students move
on to high school and advance to higher education, a school official said.
In November 2000, the school observed Veterans Day with a special assembly. Each
year, Evans hosts a Founders Day, the William H. Evans Day and a Student Recognition
program.
The school has a large membership in its Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, and many students belong to the National Junior Honor Society. Evans
also has a large foreign language enrollment.
