Atkins'
facilities include an auditorium, cafeteria, two gymnasiums and an athletic facility
with four tennis courts.
The building was constructed in 1957, and an east
wing was added in the 1970's. The athletic facility was built in 1990.
Nearly
all the classrooms have one or more computers, and Atkins features two computer
labs. The school has a total of 102 Internet-ready computers available for student
and teacher use.
Atkins' athletic program features football, volleyball, boys
and girls basketball, wrestling, boys and girls tennis teams, and track and field.
The school features beginner and advanced band classes.
Atkins strives
to build relationships with parents, and a component of that effort is a seventh
grade orientation involving both parents and students.
The school also hosts
an annual Christmas lunch, a Chili Cookoff, a Talent Show, a Recognition Assembly
to honor excellent students, and an annual banquet for ninth graders.
Among
Atkins' curricula, are a Character Counts program and Pre-Advanced Placement programs
in all core classes.
