to the courtyard are an ongoing project.
Wheelock operates a computer lab
equipped with 25 Dell computers. Each classroom is equipped with a Windows and
a Macintosh computers, and the school is networking its computers. All computers
are Internet-ready.
Parental involvement is stressed at Wheelock, and the
school strives to encourage parents to participate in their children's education
with Parenting Sessions and Brown Bag luncheons.
The parent teacher association
is actively involved with school committees.
Wheelock hosts a Fall Festival
each October, and Open House events are held twice each year -- in the fall and
spring.
A unique event at Wheelock is an excursion to Palo Duro Canyon for
sixth graders scheduled each May.
Wheelock has an Honor Choir and sixth grade
All-City Choir.
The school also provides a Core Knowledge program for each
grade level, teaching content rich in historical insights.
The school provides
a Character Counts program as part of its curriculum, and the six Pillars of Character
are taught during each six-week session. The course concludes with a luncheon
honoring a student from each class. Parents are invited and a keynote speaker
gives a presentation during the ceremony.
