A
large library is the hub of Waters Elementary School, which was constructed in
1983. Self-contained classrooms are built around the library. The school has a
gymnasium, a blacktop with basketball goals and a large, grassy play area.
Internet-ready computers are in every classroom, and students have access to wired
computers in two classrooms and the library.
Special programs offered at Waters
include Accelerated Reading, the Gifted and Talented Program, Reading Lab and
the Content Mastery Inclusion Program.
Students may participate in activities
such as Future Problem Solving, choir, computer and book clubs, Student Council
and safety patrols. A banquet is held for sixth grade students each fall. Other
annual events include special assemblies and Chuck Wagon Day.
The school's
parent teacher association received the outstanding parent teacher association
award for District 17. Parents support students and teachers through a variety
of volunteer programs.
