Academic
Excellence Indicator System report.
Parsons
Elementary was built in 1958. In 1996, another wing of classrooms and a gym were
added, and the office, lounge and workroom were completely remodeled.
The
library was scheduled for renovation during 2001.
Each classroom has at least
one Internet-ready Macintosh computer, and most also have a networked Dell computer.
The school plans to have each classroom equipped with a Dell computer by the
end of the 2001 school year.
A computer lab at Parsons has 27 computers, all
networked, one Macintosh, a NetTV, as well as a laser printer.
The Parent
Volunteers program is very active, as is the parent teacher association, according
to school administrators.
The parent organizations conduct two fund-raising
campaigns each year, oversee the school photographs for the yearbook and organize
volunteers for special events. The parent teacher association has provided funds
to purchase computers, books for the library, Accelerated Reader software and
for renovations to the library.
In addition to several student performances
at parent teacher association programs, the school hosts a Spring Fling every
two years. Also, each year, the parent teacher association coordinates Muffins
with Moms and Doughnuts with Dads, programs that bring parents, students and teachers
together in an informal atmosphere.
The school art specialist holds an art
show each spring with more than 1,500 pieces of student artwork displayed.
Parsons' programs include a Middle Childhood class -- a class for profoundly handicapped
students -- and a Social Adjustment class.
The music program includes an orchestra
class and an Honor Choir for sixth-grade students. The choir performs at several
civic events during each year.
