The
school has a gymnasium, and from two to five computers per classroom, said a school
official.
Only one or two of the classroom computers is networked and Internet-ready,
but the school's computer lab has approximately 24 Dell computers -- all networked
and Internet-ready.
Overton has Dell, IBM and Macintosh computers.
The
students' parents are "fairly active," an official said. Although most of the
parents work, they help with various activities when the school calls on them.
The parent teacher association is vibrant and helpful to the school, the official
said.
Overton Elementary hosts brown-bag luncheons for each grade level, and
sponsors a Character Counts program year-round to encourage civic responsibility
among its students.
A fall festival and five all-school skate nights during
the year help students enjoy their experience at Overton, and the facility hosts
various family celebrations during the year.
Overton offers four hearing-impaired
classes and one supported education class to disabled or handicapped students.
