Jackson Elementary School was built in the mid-1940s and the latest improvement to the building -- the addition of 10 classrooms and a computer lab -- came in 1985.

The school has two computer labs and at least five computers in each classroom. The labs are equipped with 15 Dell computers connected to a server and the Internet, and all classroom have computers that also are connected to the Internet.

Jackson Elementary School has an active and growing parent teacher association, and parents participate in field trips and school activities, a school representative said.

The school celebrates Cinco de Mayo and Diez y Seis de Septiembre each year. And activities with Texas Tech University involve the students and parents during the football, basketball, and baseball seasons.

Students participate in several special areas, such as art and music during the day, and after-school activities in conjunction with Cavazos Junior High.
