Academic
Excellence Indicator System report.
Haynes
was built in 1964. The facility includes an unattached gymnasium and 22 classrooms.
The school has a computer lab equipped with Dell computers, and every classroom,
as well as the library, contains either a Dell or Macintosh computer. All of the
computers are networked and Internet connected.
Haynes' Parent Teacher Association
is "very active," and many involved parents work at the school on a daily basis,
said a school representative.
Each year, the school hosts special events like
the Young Author's Day, and Destination Imagination, as well as The African-American
History Bowl and Saint Jude's Math-a-Thon.
The school has an Honor Choir and
Junior Committee for Tech, and also incorporates the popular Accelerated Reader
program into its curriculum. The reading program awards points to students who
read books and then test themselves using a computer-testing program. Based on
the student's score, he or she is awarded points, which can be redeemed at the
reading store in the school for clothing, jewelry or other items.
The Texas
Education Agency has rated Haynes as exemplary since 1994, the highest rating
achievable, a school official said.
