at Bowie Elementary School practically go to school in the park. The campus, constructed
in 1964, is surrounded by Mahon Park, creating a fun learning environment for
those who attend classes there.
The campus is wired for the information superhighway
with computers in all regular classrooms. A total of 14 Macintoshes and 13 Windows
computers are used in classrooms, and 27 computers are utilized in a computer
lab.
Special events held each year include Back to School Night, book fairs
in the fall and spring, a pancake supper, Donuts for Dad's, Muffins for Mom, Grandparents
Night and Skate Night.
Opportunities for community service abound at Bowie
Elementary School. Students participate in the U-Can-Share Food Drive, Meals on
Wheels, Rainbow Room, Retirement Community and Community Garden. They also participate
in the Box Tops for Education program sponsored by Campbell's Soups.
Other
student activities include Student Council, Accelerated Reading, Student of the
Month celebrations and Spirit Week.
The school has an active parent teacher
association. Parents participate in monthly projects and volunteer in classrooms.
