Bean
Elementary School is a Reading Recovery district training site and is a pilot
site for the Core Knowledge curriculum. The school also offers Early Literacy
and bilingual programs.
Constructed in 1939, the building was renovated and
additions were made in 1987, 1990 and 1991. The facilities now include self-contained
classrooms as well as two pod areas providing the equivalent of eight classrooms.
Students have access to 155 computers, including 71 computers connected to
the Internet. There are 63 Windows computers and 92 Macintosh computers on campus.
Parent interaction is encouraged. Parents are invited to eat with their children
during holiday meal celebrations, and many volunteers assist teachers in a variety
of areas. Parents also attend award ceremonies.
Special events held during
the year include Family Math, the Accelerated Reader store and holiday celebrations.
