Bennett Intermediate School was built in 1993. However, the school has entered the 21st Century prepared to provide its students the skills they will need to compete in tomorrow's marketplace.

The school operates five computer labs, including one in its library. It has a laptop computer lab linked by a fiber-optic, wide-area-network connection. The computer system of the school provides parents an interactive website, enabling them to check a student's homework, grades, class and events schedules, attendance and disciplinary actions. Through the site, parents also have the ability to send e-mail teachers.

The school playground includes a basketball court. Soccer goals and a baseball backcourt are scheduled for completion by late 2002. Also, an outdoor theater is expected to be completed by 2003.

The parent teacher association has a strong attendance record, school officials said.

Students at Bennett participate in a Science Fair each February -- a competition that awards winners the opportunity to participate in the Texas Tech University Career Day.

The school sponsors a Character Counts program, as well as a mentoring program that enlists parents who volunteer for an hour each week to help students with school-related topics.
