Constructed in 1974, Abernathy Junior High School features underground facilities that provide protection during severe weather season. It is one of three schools on the Abernathy Independent School District campus in downtown Abernathy.

The latest technology is evident at the school, where every classroom has a computer and there is one computer for every four students. The school is wired to the Internet with a T1 high-speed connection and an interactive audio and video system is available in every classroom.

The multiple-building campus includes two acres of fenced yard area.

A vital link to the community is the active school parent teacher association. The organization provides for interaction between parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community.

Abernathy Junior High School has a low teacher to pupil ratio and the multi-school campus makes the transition to high school easy.
