LISD "Gold
Card"
LISD will make available again this year the "LISD Gold
Card." The "VIP" pass is available to persons
60 years of age and older and provides complimentary admission
to most school events, including football games at Lowrey
Field. Senior citizens who already have a "Gold Card"
may continue to use it this year. For those without a card,
a simple application form should be completed and is available
at the district's Public Information Department, 1628 19th
St., telephone 766-1062. It will take one week to process.
Dunbar
begins 2002-2003 with "new and improved" facilities
The Lubbock Independent School District is dedicated to continually
updating its facilities with technology and adding space for
new students. Recently, Dunbar Junior High's renovation was
completed, adding several science labs and new administrative
offices to the science magnet program.
Richard Molina, principal, said he is excited about how the
school has been updated. "This is the first major renovation
for Dunbar since the school opened in 1958," he said.
Other than a workout room being added to the field house,
nothing has been added to the main campus in all of its academic
years.
Students returning to Dunbar this year will notice new parking
areas for teachers and visitors as well as appreciate the
six new science labs that were created for the school. The
older science labs have been renovated into regular classrooms.
The tennis courts and track were resurfaced for the students
as well.
The cafeteria was renovated and completed before the 2001-2002
school year began. In the renovation, three firewalls were
added that are used as partitions to divide the room for meetings.
Dunbar's construction is just one example of how LISD is committed
to keeping up with new technology and updating campuses for
the students' benefits.
